Cost Reduction Studies

A new diesel air filter for your fleet can cost as much as $100. If you can clean and reuse that diesel air filter, instead of throwing it away, the cost reductions are obvious. But the savings don’t stop there!

Most fleet operators maximize profitability and minimize costs by using the air filters in their trucks as long as possible before replacing them. However, with the 360Clean, you can clean your diesel air filter more frequently than you would have had to replace it. This means that the 360Clean lets you run your trucks on cleaner air filters – without incurring additional costs – and reap the benefits of “running clean and green.”

This one simple change in your standard operating procedures will yield significant advantages, both for your bottom line and for the environment:

Cleaner diesel air filter = Better fuel efficiency
Cleaner diesel air filter = Fewer emissions
Cleaner diesel air filter = Better engine performance and longer engine life

The cost of a diesel air filter is significant. But it’s nothing compared to the cost of your truck’s engine!

See our Cost Reduction studies below and then plug your actual operating stats (# of trucks, cost of your filters, miles driven annually, etc.) into our handy Savings Calculator tool. The numbers don’t lie.

Study 1 – Reduction in Filter Costs

For the sake of simplicity, our first study examines the money you can save in air filters alone, by using the 360Clean instead of replacing dirty air filters. We’ve plugged in sample data; each operator’s results will vary, based on their own figures.

Sample Operating Stats

  • Cost per diesel air filter $100
  • Annual driving distance per truck 100,000
  • Replace air filters every… 20,000 miles
  • Number of trucks maintained in service center 40

Based on these sample stats, you would replace each truck’s diesel air filter five times per year (i.e. 100,000 miles divided by 20,000 miles).

Therefore, by cleaning instead of replacing your diesel air filter, you would save $500/year per truck ($100 x 5).

  • Annual diesel air filter cost reductions per truck $500
  • Annual cost reductions – per service center $20,000

In one year, you would reduce costs at each service center by $20,000. If your entire fleet totals 400 trucks, and you have 10 service centers, your total fleet savings would be $200,000 ($500 savings per truck x 400 trucks) – in air filters alone!

If your heavy-duty operations normally require that you replace your trucks’ filters more often than every 20,000 miles – for example, every 10,000 miles – your 360Clean savings increase:

  • Diesel air filter replacements, per truck 10 per year
  • Annual diesel air filter cost reductions per truck $1000
  • Total trucks in fleet 400
  • Annual air filter cost reductions – total fleet $400,000

Multiply those annual savings by the number of years you plan to be in business. The numbers are staggering.

  • Annual diesel air filter cost reductions – total fleet $400,000
  • Savings over 10 years $4,000,000

Naturally, from these cost reductions you will need to deduct the initial investment of purchasing the 360Clean for each of your service centers. We estimate that most fleet operators will recoup their initial investment within one-to-two years.

We must also note that, even with the 360Clean’s gentle and effective cleaning process, your filters will not remain in optimal condition forever. Eventually your airflow monitor will indicate that your diesel air filter is no longer reaching the desired airflow level after cleaning. At that point you will need to purchase a new filter and deduct those savings from the cost reduction results. Filter replacement rates vary significantly, based on your type of equipment, the environment and conditions in which you’re operating, and the filter maintenance program that you put in place at your shop or service centers. More frequent cleanings will increase the life span of each filter, because cleanings help prevent the buildup of stubborn, caked-on debris.

We estimate that a diesel air filter can be cleaned with the 360Clean at least 10 times before it should be replaced – and, with a regular maintenance program in place, that number could be much higher.

Study 2 – Reduction in Fuel Costs

The study above shows that if you clean your trucks’ air filters at the same rate as you would normally have replaced them, you can save hundreds of thousands of dollars.

However, to increase the cost reductions and environmental benefits of the 360Clean, we recommend that you clean your air filters more frequently than you would have replaced them. You have nothing to lose and much to gain. Now that you have a 360Clean, the cost of cleaning a filter is almost nil.

The benefits of cleaning your air filters more frequently than you would have replaced them are:

  • Better fuel efficiency
  • Fewer emissions
  • Better engine performance and longer engine life

This study examines the cost reductions in fuel, based on improved fuel efficiency/MPG. For simplicity, we conservatively estimate an improvement of .2 miles per gallon in your fuel efficiency. Your results may vary.

Note also that fuel prices change daily. For the sake of this study, we used a reasonable estimate of $2.25/gallon of diesel.

Sample Operating Stats

  • Annual driving distance per truck 100,000 miles
  • Current MPG 7 MPG
  • MPG improvement with cleaner filters 7.2 MPG
  • Cost of diesel fuel $2.25/gallon
  • Number of trucks in fleet 400

Based on the stats above, your annual fuel cost per truck without 360Clean is: $32,143.50.
(100,000 miles / 7 MPG = 14,286 gallons. 14,286 gallons x $2.25/gallon = $32,143.50).

If you improve your MPG to 7.2 MPG, by cleaning your filters regularly with the 360Clean, your annual fuel costs per truck would be reduced to: $31.250.00.
(100,000miles / 7.2 MPG = 13,889 gallons. 13,889 gallons x $2.25/gallon = $31.250.25.)

Therefore, with the 360Clean, you would save $893.25/year, for every truck in your fleet.
($32,143.50 - $31.250.25 = $893.25)

  • Annual fuel cost reductions per truck $893.25
  • Number of trucks in fleet 400
  • Annual fuel cost reductions – total fleet $357,300

In one year, your total fleet savings would be $357,300 ($893.25 savings per truck x 400 trucks) – in fuel alone!

Over ten years, your fuel savings would total $3,573,000! You will also benefit from fewer emissions, better engine performance and longer engine life.

Study 3 – Combined Savings – Filters and Fuel

When you integrate the 360Clean with your fleet operations, you will actually save on both air filter costs and fuel costs. Cleaning your dirty air filters more frequently than you would normally replace them makes good sense, in terms of financial and environmental benefits.

Study 3 is the simplest of all. Add the diesel air filter savings and the fuel savings from the two studies outlined above (based on fleets of 400 trucks):

  • Annual diesel air filter cost reductions – total fleet $400,000
  • Annual fuel cost reductions – total fleet $357,300
  • Combined annual cost reductions $757,300*
  • Savings over 10 years $7,573,000*

*Minus the initial investment cost of the 360Clean, plus occasional filter replacements.
